Nocte Silentium
What do you think about, alone in the dark?
Even if someone is beside you,
even if you can hear them breathing,
you feel that you know they’re asleep,
and so you assume.
You assume they can’t hear you,
can’t react to the turning of gears in your mind.
You,
by all accounts,
are alone there.
Now I ask you again,
what do you think about?
Where does the darkness around you
find handholds to pull itself
into the ever darker rooms of your mind?
Do you consider how you will be rising tomorrow,
only moments beyond closed eyes?
Do you pull back the clothes in your closet,
looking for the skeletons within to ogle at?
Do you search for answers on the ceiling?
I know that you are thinking,
but what do you think about?
