The Art Of The Free Exit
“I’ll see you later.”
“I’m just a smidge too busy today.”
“I hope you have fun!
Next time, I promise.”
And none are
concerning
None there
to dwell on
I can just say them,
no further excuse needed.
To be alone is,
simply,
nothing to worry about.
Novel when someone has been
surrounded
on all sides
all their life.
What did I once do to breathe?
Did I breathe at all?
It’s a strange freedom.
I’ve pushed it into a place
I didn’t know it belonged.
I’ve shut my bedroom door
for the first time in my life
and had someone knock before entering.
“I’m not your mom,
you don’t need to tell me
when you’ll be home.”
What a thought
